Co-founders Tom Carrell, a vascular surgeon in London and Graeme Penney, an imaging scientist at King’s College London, formed Cydar in 2012 to solve a true clinical problem: the need for better visualization of the anatomy during endovascular surgery. Since then, Carrell and Penney have been turning world-leading image processing research into a world first in cloud-based healthcare.
Chief Executive and Co-Founder
Tom was appointed a consultant vascular surgeon in 2004. Specialising in minimally-invasive endovascular surgery, he established and led the complex aortic programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London before becoming full-time CEO of Cydar in 2014.
Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder
Graeme is a Senior Lecturer in Imaging Sciences in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at King’s College London. He has published extensively in the field of 2D-3D image registration and is co-inventor on a number of patents in this field. Graeme currently devotes 90% of his time to developing Cydar’s imaging technology and 10% on research and lecturing at King’s College London.
Chief Technology Officer
Rob brings over 15 years of experience in both research and product development, ranging from user interfaces and ubiquitous computing to low-level application infrastructure and algorithm implementation.
Chief Financial Officer
John brings a wealth of experience, including raising finance, leading change and corporate governance to improve commercial focus and decision-making in life sciences and technology businesses. He has lead the finance, legal and ops functions at start-ups, SME and multinationals in the UK and internationally.
Global Product Manager
Verity brings with her nearly ten years of experience working within the medical device industry at the forefront of advanced aortic endovascular technology, collaborating with physicians across the globe on the design of custom-made devices for their individual patients.
Director of Operations
Louise joined Cydar in 2016 having worked for Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and its dedicated Charity for seven years. She brings insight to healthcare operations and first-hand experience of the success of innovative technology for the benefits of staff and patients.
Lord Mervyn Davies brings commercial and international experience to the Board as both a former CEO and Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank, former Minister for Trade, Investment, Small Business and Infrastructure and as current Chairman of Corsair Capital and a Director across a diverse range of companies.
Professor Deanfield brings expertise in cardiovascular imaging, large-scale clinical trials and outcomes research, both nationally and internationally. He is Professor of Cardiology at University College London and Director of the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR).
Mark Evans is co-founder and CEO of Adaptix Ltd and co-founder and former Chairman of Mirada Medical, both UK medical imaging companies. Mark brings expert knowledge and experience of the global medical imaging sector and a strong network within the domain.
James Downing brings extensive deal structuring and negotiating skills as a corporate finance specialist, and former Deputy Head of European Investment Banking at JP Morgan Chase & Co and currently as Non-Executive Director on a number of companies.
Dr Franz B. Humer brings a wealth of healthcare and commercialisation experience as well as deep insights into clinical applications and health data. He is former CEO and Chairman of Roche Plc, having previously been at Glaxo and Schering Plough.
David is Finance Director of Guy's and St Thomas' Charity, which is a major funder of healthcare innovation in Lambeth and Southwark.
